Mirza Abbas Travels to Bangkok for Eye Surgery at Ruttonin Hospital

What's the story

Mirza Abbas, a member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s Standing Committee, flew to Bangkok for ophthalmic treatment, party colleagues reported Tuesday morning.

He took a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight that departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:15 a.m. and was joined by his wife, Afroza Abbas, and their son, Mirza Yasir Abbas.

Abbas’ aide, Mizanur Rahman Sohel, informed the press: “Sir has gone to Bangkok for eye treatment. An appointment at Ruttonin Eye Hospital has been scheduled for today.” He specified that a surgical intervention is planned for Thursday. Relatives have requested the public for prayers for a swift and uncomplicated recovery.

This trip follows Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s recent visit to the same facility. The BNP Secretary General, who underwent retinal surgery on the left eye on May 14, returned to Dhaka on Tuesday evening following a routine follow-up.

The parallel visits to Ruttonin Eye Hospital underscore persisting health issues among the party’s senior ranks. Although the procedures are conventional, their sequential execution has attracted notice amid the BNP’s ongoing political mobilization within the country.

For numerous BNP supporters, the appeals for prayers issued by the leaders’ families underscore the intersection of personal adversity and public duty that characterises their leadership.
