Trump to Announce Trade Letters with 7 Nations as Tariff Deadline Nears

What's the story

President Donald Trump has announced plans to release a new set of letters related to U.S. trade and tariffs, extending his administration’s efforts to reshape global trade relationships.

The statement, posted Tuesday night on Truth Social, said letters covering trade with at least seven countries would be released Wednesday morning, with more expected later in the day.

“We will be releasing a minimum of 7 Countries having to do with trade, tomorrow morning, with an additional number of Countries being released in the afternoon,” Trump wrote.

New wave of tariffs hits 14 countries

This announcement came just a day after Trump hit 14 nations with new tariffs. The new taxes, which are between 25 and 40 percent, are the latest move in a growing fight to win better trade deals.

While the list of targeted countries hasn’t been made public, administration officials say they’re still in talks. Some of those governments are already pushing for one-on-one negotiations to find a solution.

Deals in progress with major economies

While attending a dinner with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday, Trump stated that the U.S. had finalized trade deals with the United Kingdom and China. Talks with India were reportedly nearing completion.

Trump gave no specifics on the content of those agreements, nor on the conditions for nations seeking tariff exemptions.

Firm deadline set for compliance

As part of the broader tariff rollout, Trump extended the compliance deadline for affected countries from July 9 to August 1.

In a follow-up message on Truth Social, he made clear that the deadline would not shift again.

“TARIFFS WILL START BEING PAID ON AUGUST 1, 2025,” Trump wrote. “There has been no change to this date, and there will be no change. All money will be due and payable starting AUGUST 1, 2025 – No extensions will be granted.”

Context of the trade war

Trump’s latest actions follow a pattern that began with his “Liberation Day” announcement on April 2, where he declared a sweeping review of U.S. trade relationships.

Critics have said the moves risk further isolation of the U.S. in global markets, while supporters argue the strategy forces fairer terms.

It’s not yet clear how the newly announced letters will affect current trade balances or diplomatic ties, but more developments are expected as the August deadline approaches.
