India Plane Crash: Survivor Ramesh Kumar Biswas Recounts Escape, Investigation Underway

What's the story

India is mourning one of its worst aviation disasters in recent memory.

More than 240 people were killed on Thursday when a Boeing 787 aircraft crashed, leaving behind a scene of devastation and questions.

One man survived.

Ramesh Kumar Biswas is now receiving treatment at a local hospital. On Friday (13th June), he spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who visited the injured.

Stories like this are rare.

Ramesh told the Prime Minister that he had been sitting in seat 11A, right next to an emergency exit. When the plane went down, that small detail may have saved his life.

“I managed to get out quickly,” he said.

The aircraft crashed onto a medical college hostel. Many on the ground were also caught in the impact.

According to local media, at least 24 people on the ground were killed. The full extent of injuries among hostel residents is still being assessed.

Prime Minister Modi met with survivors and offered words of comfort. He also consulted with doctors and instructed officials to ensure proper medical care for the injured.

The government has launched a high-level investigation into the crash.

Officials say clearing the wreckage is ongoing. The causes of the crash remain unclear.

For many in India, the disaster has reopened questions about aviation safety.

India’s civil aviation authority has responded by promising tighter safety oversight.

For now, the focus remains on the victims and their families. And on the lone survivor whose story offers a small point of hope amid a national tragedy.
