Taskin Ahmed is still on the mend, and it’s anyone’s guess whether he’ll be ready in time for the Sri Lanka series.
Back home in Dhaka, while the national squad tours Sri Lanka, Taskin has been seen regularly training at the BCB Academy in Mirpur, focusing on his fitness and rehab. The injury, which he picked up shortly after the Dhaka Premier League, forced him to sit out several recent matches — including the series against the UAE and Pakistan.
He did seek treatment abroad for a brief period, but has since returned to Dhaka. These days, he’s being monitored closely by the local medical team. On Sunday, fans caught a glimpse of hope — Taskin was back in the nets, sending down deliveries under the watchful eye of trainers. It’s a small but encouraging step in what’s been a frustrating period for the fast bowler.
But that return may not happen as soon as some expect.
BCB holds back confirmation for white-ball return
Dr. Debashis Chowdhury, a senior physician with the Bangladesh Cricket Board, explained the current situation in an interview with The Daily Star.
“Taskin’s return for the ODI or T20I series against Sri Lanka isn’t confirmed yet,” he said. “At the time of the squad announcement, he wasn’t fit for Tests. Usually, players returning from injury ease back through limited-overs matches. He’s still going through rehab, and we’re planning to take another look at his progress later this month before deciding anything.”
There was some early excitement after clips of Taskin training surfaced, but that buzz has settled a bit. He’s looked sharp, but the medical team isn’t taking any chances with a quick comeback.
Mustafizur and Shoriful likely to play
Alongside Taskin, two other Bangladeshi pacers — Mustafizur Rahman and Shoriful Islam — are also recovering from injuries.
Mustafizur, who injured a finger during the IPL, had been wearing finger support for several weeks. He returned to bowling on Sunday, sweating it out during a net session at the academy ground.
Shoriful, who picked up a muscle injury during the T20I series against Pakistan, is still going through the BCB’s rehab process.
This time, the update is more encouraging. According to Dr. Chowdhury, both Mustafizur and Shoriful are likely to be ready before the white-ball games get underway against Sri Lanka.

Series schedule set through July
The Bangladesh team is set to play two Tests, followed by three ODIs and three T20Is during their tour of Sri Lanka.
The first Test begins June 17. The second starts June 25. The ODI series is scheduled to start on July 2, followed by the T20Is from July 10.
The white-ball squad is likely to be announced later in June, after medical assessments of all players are complete.
Fans waiting, selectors watching
For now, Taskin is still working his way back. He’s bowling. He’s sweating. But whether he’ll be on the plane to Sri Lanka for the ODIs and T20Is is a question without a clear answer.
Maybe he makes it in time. Maybe not.
And sometimes, with injuries, that’s how it goes.
