Shamim Hossain Eyes Series Victory After Bangladesh Beat Sri Lanka in Second T20I

What's the story

Bangladesh’s T20 squad delivered a clinical performance on Sunday night in Dambulla, defeating Sri Lanka by 83 runs to level the three-match series at 1–1.

Now, all eyes turn to Colombo, where the series will be decided on July 16.

“First of all, we won the match, and that is the most pleasing thing,” said Bangladesh batter Shamim Hossain following the game. “Now the series is level at 1–1, so this win was important for us.”

Shamim said the team is now focused on winning the entire series. “We have the chance to win the series… and hopefully, if we play well, we will win it,” he added.

Litton Das set the tone early on Sunday, scoring a composed 76 off 50 balls. Shamim followed with a fiery 48 off just 27, shifting the pressure onto Sri Lanka and helping turn the game in Bangladesh’s favor.

“Litton batted really well. It was a turning point,” Shamim said. “You need a good start early on, and because of that innings, we were able to finish strongly later.”

There had been some chatter about the slower phase in the middle overs, particularly during the partnership between Litton and Towhid Hridoy. Shamim didn’t see it as a concern.

“Sometimes, you have to slow things down a little,” he said. “At that point, we needed a good partnership. We had strong batters to come later in the innings, and we can always catch up if we have wickets in hand. So that partnership between Litton and Hridoy was crucial.”

Once the runs were on the board, the bowlers backed it up. Bangladesh bowled Sri Lanka out quickly, showing sharp teamwork and discipline.

With the series on the line, the final game in Colombo promises a tense finish. Bangladesh will be hoping to seal a rare away triumph. And for Shamim, it’s simple: this is their opportunity, and they have to take it.

“We’ve worked hard. Now we just want to finish the job,” he said.
