Mehidy Hasan Miraz to Miss Netherlands T20I Series

What's the story

Star all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz will miss Bangladesh’s upcoming T20I series against the Netherlands. The decision comes after he was granted leave to be with his unwell wife, the Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed on Tuesday.

A BCB official told Cricbuzz that Mehidy applied for leave from August 20 to September 4. “He took leave to be with his wife as she is not keeping well,” the official said.

No camp in Sylhet for Miraz

Mehidy has engaged in intensive training in Dhaka for the preceding weeks in readiness for an imminent sequence of fixtures, encompassing the Netherlands series and the imminent Asia Cup match scheduled for September 9.

Nonetheless, he is obliged to withdraw from the squad’s concluding skill-based camp in Sylhet, during which the balance of the team is finalising preparatory work.

On Tuesday evening, the Bangladesh team moved to Sylhet to begin their final camp ahead of the three T20Is. All matches will be played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, starting on August 30 and running through September 3.

Netherlands’ arrival

The Netherlands squad is set to arrive in Bangladesh on August 26. They will have three days of practice before the opening match.

Bangladesh will now have to balance their bowling combinations without one of their key all-round options. It is unclear if a replacement will be named.

For Mehidy, the priority is different right now. Cricket takes a back seat as he stays with his family during this period.
