Manchester City Fined Over £1 Million for Repeated Kick-Off Delays

What's the story

Manchester City’s troubles continue to mount.

After finishing last season without a major title, the club now faces a fresh challenge: a financial penalty from the Premier League.

City has been fined £1.08 million for repeated violations of match operation rules, including late kick-offs and restarts.

The Premier League issued the fine following nine matches where the club failed to start on time or delayed play after halftime. The rule breaches occurred across home and away fixtures.

Games hit by the changes include home ties with Southampton, Spurs, Forest, United, West Ham, and Newcastle, plus away matches at Palace, Villa, and Ipswich.

The most severe delays were seen against West Ham and Ipswich, where play resumed more than two minutes late.

This is not the first time City has been fined for similar reasons. The club paid a £2 million fine last year for the same issue.

In its statement, the Premier League said clubs are responsible for maintaining professionalism and protecting the experience for fans and teams alike.

City accepted the latest sanction. The club also said it has reminded its players and staff to avoid further mistakes.

With the Club World Cup fast approaching, City had been hoping for a more settled start to the new season. Instead, they’re paying for old mistakes—literally.
