Persistent rain in Guyana had the final say on Thursday, as the last league fixture of the Global Super League 2025 between Rangpur Riders and Central Stags was abandoned.
The day started with delays. A morning downpour pushed the toss back by 45 minutes. When it did happen, Rangpur Riders won and chose to bat, perhaps taking a risk given the weather.
But just after the toss, the skies opened again. When play resumed, it was already trimmed to a 17-over contest.
Riders got off to a shaky start. Soumya Sarkar fell on his second delivery, caught off Angus Schaw. Shortly after, Ibrahim Zadran was dismissed by Jayden Lennox.
Then rain returned.
This time, it was longer. The game was cut down again, now to just 14 overs per side.
The resumption of play was swift and brutal for the Riders. Blair Tickner delivered the knockout blows, swiftly dismissing three key batsmen including captain Nurul Hasan. That one spell broke the Riders’ back. The innings unraveled in a hurry, with the team crashing from a shaky 66 for 6 to a humiliating 79 all out.
Lennox and Schaw came back to finish the job. Lennox ended with 3 for 6. Schaw had 3 for 13. Tickner grabbed 3 for 17.
But the game never resumed.
Another heavy spell of rain hit the Providence Stadium and this time there was no coming back. Match officials called it off.
With this, the league phase concludes. Rangpur Riders had already booked their spot in the final. Central Stags finish third in the table.
No further play was possible, but both teams now look ahead. For Riders, it’s the final. For the Stags, the playoff route remains.
