After their historic qualification for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, the Bangladesh women’s team is set to be honored and rewarded by the country’s football federation. The BFF announced it will host a special reception with a cash bonus for the players. The good news came just as the team was getting ready to fly home to Dhaka on Sunday night.
Due to a tight schedule, the BFF plans to host the event immediately after the players land. The reception will be held at the amphitheater by Hatirjheel, where the team will be brought directly from the airport.
“We will bring the women’s team straight from the airport to the amphitheater near Hatirjheel. There, anyone who wants to speak to or hear from the players can do so. We will provide financial rewards and also consider other forms of recognition,” said BFF President Tabith Awal.
Busy Schedule, Immediate Departure for Bhutan
Some players are scheduled to leave for Bhutan the following morning to play in a league, prompting the federation to hold the reception on short notice.
Even with the hurdles, the BFF is calling this a big moment. For the first time ever, Bangladesh’s women’s team is heading to the Asian Cup finals.
Eyeing Bigger Goals Ahead
This isn’t just about the Asian Cup anymore—the stakes are getting much higher. The BFF is already looking ahead, planning more international matches to make sure the team is ready for the world stage.
Think about what’s on the line: a top-six finish at the Asian Cup books them a spot in the FIFA Women’s World Cup. On top of that, they could even get a shot at the Olympics.
“We’re taking the next six months very seriously,” Tabith said. “We believe in the leadership shown by our women’s team. If we support that leadership properly, we believe good results will follow.”
Pending Payments and Player Contracts
The BFF president acknowledged that players have yet to receive promised financial rewards from their SAFF Championship win. He said those payments, along with delayed salaries under existing contracts, will be resolved soon.
“No one has received the announced bonus yet, but I believe they will very shortly,” he said. “As for delayed wages, those contracts are now being updated and will be settled.”
Focus on Youth Development
In an effort to strengthen the future of women’s football, the BFF is also planning to launch leagues for under-14 to under-17 age groups. This is intended to create a more stable pipeline of talent for the national team moving forward.
The recent qualification, combined with structural plans and pending support, suggests that women’s football in Bangladesh may finally be heading into a more organized and sustainable future.
