Two men found dead inside a private car parked in the basement of Dr Sirajul Islam Medical College Hospital in Dhaka’s Mouchak area have been identified, police said Monday.
The victims were Jakir Hossain, 26, a driver from Khilpara Union in Chatkhil upazila of Noakhali, and his associate Mizan, 38, from Ramnarayanpur Union No. 2 in the same district.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Ramna Zone Deputy Commissioner Masud Alam said a forensic team from the Criminal Investigation Department visited the scene and collected evidence. The bodies have been sent to Dhaka Medical College for autopsy.
The car’s owner, Zubair Al Mahmud Saurav, told Bangla Tribune that he and Jakir had returned from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport early Sunday morning before heading to Mouchak. Jakir mentioned he had arranged a paid trip to Noakhali for 3,000 taka, with the passenger to be picked up from the hospital later that morning. Mizan, who was with Jakir at the time, was expected to accompany him.
Saurav said he went to Noakhali by bus after finishing his own work, leaving Jakir and Mizan with the car. He later tried calling Jakir in the afternoon, but the call was cut. Attempts to reach both men the following morning failed. GPS tracking showed the car still at the hospital. Around 2 p.m. on Monday, police informed Saurav that the bodies had been found.
Mizan was piecing together a living from jobs in dredging and fish farming and had only recently started learning to drive, a local representative named Mobarok Ullah explained.
He was in Dhaka visiting an ill brother-in-law—he had even brought him coconuts from home. For now, the cause of death is pending an autopsy, and the police investigation is ongoing.
