The interim government has formed a committee to prepare the July Proclamation ahead of the first anniversary of last year’s student-led uprising.
Planning advisor Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud will lead the effort. The team includes several government advisors and will coordinate with students and political parties who participated in the events of July.
Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam confirmed on Wednesday (19th June) the development following a key meeting on the initiative.
“We’ve set a target to complete the proclamation before August 5,” he said. “This is based on strong public demand, especially from the student community.”
The committee will consult all major political groups involved in last year’s movement.
A second committee, focusing on media and cultural engagement, will be led by Dr. Siyam Abrar. It will oversee programs from July 1 to August 5 across television, radio, and print.
Draft in progress
According to officials, work on the proclamation began earlier and has already made significant progress.
The committee’s task is to finalize it quickly and ensure broad representation.
Alam said a draft should be ready soon, and details will be shared with national media early next week.
A press briefing is set for Monday, with invites going out to top TV channels and newspapers. The committee is expected to present a draft of the proclamation and upcoming event plans.

Deadline-driven effort
The proclamation is aimed at commemorating the events of July while setting forward-looking goals.
“This isn’t about delays,” Alam clarified. “It’s about getting it right before the first anniversary.”
The government hopes the draft will reflect the spirit of last year’s mass movement and align with the demands of those involved.
The proclamation is expected to be finalized within 30 working days, though Alam stressed the goal is to release it earlier.
Under Dr. Mahmud’s leadership, the team will promptly engage with all political stakeholders. More announcements are expected in the coming weeks.
