Jamaat-e-Islami to Hold Historic Rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on July 19

What's the story

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is preparing to hold what it describes as a “historic turning point” in the country’s political landscape.

The party announced plans for its first-ever mass rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka, scheduled for Saturday, 19 July.

Speaking at a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club on Wednesday, Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar claimed the rally will draw over 1 million participants.

He said the gathering is not only for party members but also for general citizens calling for political change.

“This rally will be a historic turning point. We expect more than 10 lakh people will participate — not just party activists but also general people who are demanding a change amid the country’s current political deadlock,” Parwar told reporters.

Extensive Preparations Underway

To mobilize support, Jamaat has ramped up daily outreach activities across the country.

According to Parwar, top party leaders are directly supervising the logistics and coordination.

An implementation committee has been formed, along with eight sub-committees, to manage the rally’s planning.

The party says it is making arrangements to bring attendees from across the country using various forms of transportation.

About 10,000 buses have reportedly been rented, with additional plans in place for trains and launches.

Specific route maps for incoming vehicles are also being finalized to ease congestion in the capital.

Security and Law Enforcement Coordination

He’s made a bold claim: the government wants control over the community’s religious lands. What began as a property dispute has now become part of a wider, more heated debate over national security and accountability.

With that groundwork laid, the party is now publicly calling on the government to cooperate and allow the event to proceed peacefully, while also readying 6,000 of its own volunteers to keep order.

Call for Caretaker Government

Reiterating the party’s long-standing demand, Golam Parwar again urged for the installation of a neutral caretaker government during the upcoming election period.

Jamaat is pitching this rally as a fundamental defense of democracy. To build momentum, their people are on the ground, going door-to-door and holding small street gatherings.

The real goal here is obvious: to stage a major comeback in Dhaka. Time will tell if the crowds show up, but the party is clearly determined to make a statement.
