Twenty-six people remain in hospital after the Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara’s Diabari area, doctors said on Saturday.
Of those still receiving care, 23 are children. One child is in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, according to Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, the institute’s resident surgeon.
He said several patients have severe burns that affect their windpipes and large parts of their bodies. While many are stable, others remain under close observation due to the extent of their injuries.
The Directorate General of Health Services reported that the death toll from the crash has reached 34. Twenty-eight of them were child students. Many died at the scene, while others passed away after being taken to hospital.
The crash of an Air Force fighter jet into the Milestone School on July 21 left 34 people dead. The jet’s impact turned the two-story building into an inferno, killing 20 on site and leaving 14 with injuries so severe they would not survive.
The official investigation has begun, a search for answers and reasons. But for the families left behind, the ‘why’ is a hollow question. They are already living with the only answer that matters: the devastating, permanent absence of the ones they loved.
