The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) says it will launch a nationwide movement starting July 1.
The aim, according to the party, is to resist what it calls a return of fascist politics.
BNP Joint Secretary General Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee made the announcement Tuesday.
He spoke at a farewell event for HSC candidates at Chandraganj Kafil Uddin Degree College in Lakshmipur.
“There will be no space for fascism in this country,” Anee said.
“We are preparing. From the 1st to the 5th of August, we will be present on the streets.”
He also criticized recent crackdowns on political activists.
“Our student supporters were killed during the movement. Not just in Lakshmipur, but across the country,” he said.
He accused authorities of using violence to suppress opposition.
“The way our leaders have been tortured and murdered, we cannot ignore it anymore,” Anee stated.

While the party did not announce specific protest events, the tone suggests a more visible presence in the coming weeks.
Anee’s remarks reflect growing tensions between the ruling Awami League and BNP ahead of potential political shifts.
The battle lines have been drawn for years: the BNP claims the government is stomping on their rights, while the government says the BNP is just hungry for power. But Anee’s threat just lit the fuse. He basically dared the government to a street fight on July 1st, and now the clock is ticking.
The government hasn’t flinched, at least not publicly. With July 1 getting closer by the day, the whole country is holding its breath to see who swerves first. Will the BNP back down, or will we see a major crackdown on the streets?
