The Bangladesh chapter of the Europe Bangladesh Federation of Commerce and Industry (EBFCI) was formally launched Wednesday in Dhaka’s Baridhara district.
The ceremony drew senior government officials, including Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, as well as European Union Ambassador to Bangladesh Charles Whiteley and several private sector leaders.
Focus on Bangladesh–EU trade growth
With its LDC graduation on the horizon, Bangladesh is placing a major emphasis on its economic relationship with Europe. The new EBFCI is central to this push, designed to spark more dynamic trade and investment between the two partners.
According to organizers, launching the new Bangladesh chapter is the key to accelerating these efforts and building a much stronger cross-border partnership.
“Post-graduation challenges are real. Strengthening trade with Europe is a key part of our strategy,” he said.
Market access seen as critical
Officials at the event stressed that access to European markets remains crucial for Bangladesh’s future exports.
One participant said, “Market access is critical. The more predictable and open it is, the better we can prepare.”
The EBFCI, originally formed to promote regional economic links, now hopes the local chapter will serve as a bridge between Bangladeshi entrepreneurs and European businesses.
Broader goals for private sector support
Beyond trade, the platform aims to support joint ventures, increase investments, and simplify regulatory cooperation.
“Businesses on both sides want more clarity and more connection,” said one EBFCI member. “This chapter can help deliver both.”
The government and private sector leaders both indicated optimism that the new chapter will help position Bangladesh for a more stable economic transition and broader global engagement.
