A Rajshahi court has placed three men on five-day remand each in connection with the recovery of firearms and explosives during a joint security operation.
The accused are Mustaserul Alam Aninda, Md Robin, and Md Faisal. Police produced them before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate-2 at around 3 p.m. on Sunday, seeking seven days of remand. After the hearing, Magistrate Mamunur Rashid approved five days.
Their arrests came on Saturday after a special raid carried out by joint forces, including the Bangladesh Army, at a coaching center in the Darikharbona area under Boalia police station.
According to press releases from multiple law enforcement agencies, a substantial arsenal—including fixed and small-caliber arms, a sizeable quantity of ammunition, and precursor chemicals for explosive fabrication—was seized from the indicated location.
Boalia Police Station’s Sub-Inspector Rezaul Karim, the registering officer for the corresponding first-information report, affirmed that the operation was the tactical culmination of controlled surveillance exceeding four weeks, during which the investigative division assessed electronic intercepts, persistent site surveillance, and corroborative forensic data.
Among the seized items were two foreign-made revolvers with ammunition, an air gun, six locally made firearms, a military-grade binocular with optical scope, a foreign dagger, advanced walkie-talkie sets, a GPS device, a taser gun, cartridges of both local and foreign origin, unused SIM cards, and explosive-making materials.
Authorities also recovered computer sets, cash, bottles of foreign and local liquor, and nitrogen cartridges that were later defused by the bomb disposal unit.
Police say the investigation is now focused on determining the purpose of the weapons stockpile and whether the suspects had links to any organized group. The remand period will allow interrogators to gather further information.
