The National Citizen Party (NCP) held a rally in Patuakhali on Sunday, accusing the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) of aligning itself with corrupt forces and obstructing national reform efforts.
Speaking at the event, NCP Convener Nahid Islam claimed that while the party upholds the values of the 1972 Constitution, the BNP has taken a position that favors extortion and division.
“They are protecting the 1972 Mujibist Constitution and standing in support of corrupt extortionists,” Nahid told the crowd. “The BNP has positioned itself as a protector of these forces, sowing division across the country.”
No Compromise with Opposing Forces
Nahid emphasized that the party would not make alliances with those who stand against what he called the “July-August revolution.”
“We will not compromise or unite with anyone who stands against the July-August revolution,” he said.
As the NCP continues its district-wide campaign, Nahid described growing public support for their movement. But he warned of ongoing efforts to destabilize their progress.
“From social media to the bureaucratic structure of the military and the DGFI, the country’s establishment is still conspiring against the uprising,” he alleged.
Call for Structural Change and Justice
Nahid said that while the Hasina regime has been overthrown by public resistance, the system of corruption remains intact.
“We are facing obstacles while trying to change the mafia corrupt system,” he stated, adding that a new political force has emerged to preserve what he views as entrenched graft.
Hasnat Abdullah, NCP’s chief organiser for the southern region, described the current moment as a turning point.
“This August will mark the beginning of a new chapter—a Bangladesh free from tyranny,” he told rally attendees.
Procession and Local Presence
Zahirul Islam Musa, Patuakhali’s district coordinator, led the event, which started with a procession from the Circuit House and passed through major areas like the New Market intersection.
The rally was marked by visible enthusiasm. Colorful banners, arches, festoons, and flags were displayed across the town.
Central NCP leaders including Sarjis Alam, Dr. Tasnim Zarah, and others from the party’s northern and central leadership also addressed the rally.
Following the event, party members traveled to Barguna as part of their ongoing campaign.
The rally was held to demand justice, broad reforms, national rebuilding, and the enforcement of the July Charter, which calls for a fair electoral process.
