National footballer Rituparna Chakma’s mother, who has been battling cancer for over a year, received financial assistance on Wednesday from both the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the Rangamati Hill District Council.
BNP’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi personally delivered a BDT 200,000 check to the athlete’s family during a visit to their home in Rangamati.
He praised Rituparna for bringing honor to the nation and pledged that the BNP would continue to stand by her family.
“She represented Bangladesh with pride,” he said. “Now it’s our turn to stand beside her family when they need it the most.”
Rituparna’s mother, Basumati Chakma, has been bedridden for about 18 months. She is reportedly suffering from cancer and undergoing treatment at home.
Later that same day, Rangamati Hill District Council Chairman Kajal Talukder also visited the family and handed over an additional check of BDT 300,000.
Along with the financial help, officials noted infrastructure support is also being provided. A 2-kilometer road connecting Rituparna’s home in Moghachari to the main Rangamati–Chattogram highway is under construction with council funding.
“We expect the road to be completed within this year,” said Talukder, pointing out that it would ease travel for the family and local residents.
The support for Rituparna’s family comes as a rare example of political and administrative leaders converging around a personal cause.
No comment has yet been made by Rituparna Chakma herself or her immediate family members, but neighbors say the visits and aid brought some relief to the household.
It remains unclear whether further medical support will be arranged, but both Rizvi and Talukder expressed commitment to monitor the situation.
